Lifespring Winter Presentation - Sign Up by Monday, December 2nd
Date: Wednesday, December 4, 2024
Time: 11:00 am - 12:30 pm
Place: Free online presentation via Zoom
In late 1673, Louis Dubois purchased two enslaved Africans named Anthony and Susanna from the Dutch sheriff in what is now Kingston, NY. This is the earliest recorded purchase of enslaved Africans by a founder of New Paltz, NY. However, Anthony and Susanna fled from Dubois in early 1674, crossing the Hudson River and returning to the plantation of their former enslaver, Colonel Lewis Morris, in what is now the Bronx.
In this presentation, Eddie Moran (Ulster County Historian) reveals the powerful and riveting story of Anthony and Susanna.
Eddie Moran is a lifelong resident of the New Paltz area and a descendant of the town’s Huguenot and Dutch colonizers. He is a graduate of SUNY New Paltz.
If you would like to participate, you must register by 5 p.m. Monday, December 2nd. Visit the Lifespring Winter Presentations page to register.
