From Crispin Kott's HV1 election reporting:
Incumbent Supervisor Fred Costello Jr. (Democratic/Working Families) earned 3,496 votes — just shy of three-quarters of all votes cast — in his successful race to earn a fourth consecutive term. That total included 219 absentee, 1,496 early voting and 1,781 Election Day votes. Costello faced a challenge from Gaetana Ciarlante (Conservative), who fell short in her bid to unseat him, tallying 1,228 votes.
Zachery Horton (Republican/Conservative) was the sole incumbent candidate for Town Board, earning 2,217 votes — not enough to hold his seat. Democratic challengers Bill Barr (2,820 votes) and Stephanie Bassler (2,735 votes) prevailed, while Michael Sasso III (Republican/Conservative) finished on the outside looking in, with 2,209 votes.
Three incumbents endorsed by the Republican and Conservative parties ran unopposed. Town Clerk Lisa Stanley picked up 3,129 votes, Receiver of Taxes Diane Friedmann earned 3,052 votes, and Superintendent of Highways Raymond Mayone amassed 3,080 votes.
At the Ulster County level, the Daily Freeman reports that:
- March Gallagher, who ran unopposed, was reelected Ulster County Comptroller
- The Ulster County Legislature results, in the Saugerties districts, were:
- District 1 (Town of Saugerties, town of Woodstock): Aaron J. Levine (Democrat) 1,674; Gianfranco Pellegri (Republican, Conservative) 948.
- District 2 (Town of Saugerties, village of Saugerties): Ann Peters (Democrat) 1,343; Ronald Polacco (Republican, Conservative, Common Sense) 983.
- District 3 (Town of Kingston, town of Ulster, town of Saugerties): Jason J. Kovacs (Republican, Conservative) 1,604.

A statewide burn ban is in effect due to increased fire risk and continued dry conditions. The ban will be in effect for 14 days from October 2nd to October 15th and will be reevaluated prior to expiration. New Yorkers can help prevent fires in communities and in the back-country by complying with the prohibition on most outdoor fires and protect water supplies by continuing to conserve water whenever possible.
The statewide burn ban now in effect PROHIBITS the starting of outdoor fires for purposes of brush and debris disposal, as well as all uncontained fires, including campfires, and open fires used for cooking. Backyard fire pits and contained campfires less than three feet in height and four feet in length, width or diameter ARE ALLOWED, as are small, contained cooking fires. Burning garbage or leaves is already prohibited year-round in New York State and several municipalities have burn bans currently in effect.
Recent dry conditions are resulting in a “High” fire danger for the Southern Tier, Lake Ontario Plains, St. Lawrence, Adirondack, High Peaks and Upper Hudson Champlain Fire Danger Rating Areas. A high fire danger means all fine, dead fuels ignite readily and fires start easily from most causes, including unattended brush and campfires. The rest of the state remains in “Moderate” fire danger, which means fires can start from most accidental causes.
The high fire danger is due in part to gusty winds and lower relative humidities forecasted during an existing prolonged dry spell. Any notable rainfall from last week was not area-wide and while wind gusts are expected to calm down, dry conditions are expected to continue for at least another week.
Since the beginning of August, Forest Rangers have responded to 64 wild-land fires across the state. Fires may become serious and controlling them difficult unless attacked successfully while still small.
Note that in the color-coded image (larger version available here), Ulster County is in the "Moderate" range for fire danger.

We have posted a notification PDF that informs that we missed a deadline in some recently updated regulations requiring inventorying and reporting on over 1,500 water service lines in the Village of Saugerties. This task hits hardest on small municipalities like us, versus larger cities and town. In addition to the number of lines we deal with, we have 125 years or so of records to inspect and factor into the work to satisfy the EPA.
We are confident we will complete the inventory/reporting tasks mentioned in the notification PDF, by the August 31, 2025 deadline that's mentioned therein.
