Brief History
The Saugerties Stallions are a collegiate baseball team based in Saugerties, New York. They play in the Perfect Game Collegiate Baseball League (PGCBL), and their home games are on the main Cantine Field baseball field (#11). Saugerties businessman Kevin Hinchey purchased the team in October 2015 with a vision of having them become a close part of the community and a fun team for local fans of the nation's pastime to watch. After their first (2016) season, it was clear that both objectives were accomplished.
Some doubt began to grow in 2022 about the Stallions' future, when at the end of the season, Hinchey made known his plan to exit. The team came back for the 2023 season after the Town of Saugerties took over the franchise from former owner Kevin Hinchey. The Town of Saugerties oversaw the 2023 team as the search for a possible new local owner continues. The Town of Saugerties feels the Stallions Baseball franchise possesses a valuable economic impact on both the Saugerties community and outside of the Saugerties area, in addition to adding greatly to quality of life enhancements for our residents.
The Saugerties Stallions won the PGCBL title in the 2021 season.
Today's Stallions
The team is fun to watch, entertaining not only with their baseball skills and small-town interaction with the crowds, but they also offer the occasional games that are accompanied by fireworks after the game, and there have even been games where sponsors enabled the crowd to attend for free.
Joe "Base" Quirk is the General Manager of the team.
The Stallions typically open their season in early June. They play 46 games during the regular season, running through the end of July, at which time the playoffs begin.
