More Ways to Get Involved

In addition to the above groups and clubs, there are other opportunities for anyone looking to get involved in activities for the betterment of Saugerties.

Examples are:

  • Lighthouse TV23, Saugerties' public-access TV channel, is always looking for volunteers.  An example is camera people to record local events and meetings of interest.  So you volunteer your time to benefit residents who can later watch an event or meeting that they couldn't attend live, and at the same time, you are honing your movie-making skills.
  • The Saugerties Fire Department is 100% volunteer, and they are always interested in additional help.
  • There are religious groups in Saugerties, such as the Rosary Society, associated with St. Mary's and St. Joseph churches.  They have a volunteer page with more information.
  • There are organizations such as Veterans of Foreign War (VFW) and Saugerties has an active VFW (Post 5034, 30 John Street).  Its members are eligible veterans and military members, but they do hold events that are open to the public.  The VFW Facebook page is here - https://www.facebook.com/Saugerties-VFW-Post-5034-1003889679737576/
  • There are Village and Town boards and committees that help Saugerties plan and then fulfill its future.  In general, these groups are in place to advise the Village and Town Boards in particular focus areas.  These are volunteer (unsalaried) committees and typically require being appointed by the respective Town or Village Board.  They are *very* important in helping establish or continue the character, look and feel of our Town and Village.  The lists of committees can be found at the links below:

If you're interested in joining one of these committees, or want to look into any of the committees further, you can start by attending their meetings, which are typically open to the public (in person or via online access).
