Description:

The Blue Kats is a not for profit social organization for men of the greater Saugerties community.  We have been an organization for more than 30 years.  Our fund-raising activities support those in sudden or unexpected need as well as those non-profit organizations that enrich the lives of our youth and our town’s religious and civic organizations.  We provide our members with opportunities for self-enrichment through a monthly sharing of food, fellowship and educational speakers.  The purpose of these meetings is to consider how best to serve the needs of our local community and to recruit new members.

We decorate the “Rock Cut” welcome area on Route 212 at Christmas, and a member keeps the grass cut.

What we do

  • Assist others with our donations
  • Donate to local organizations
  • Help local charities fulfill their missions

What a Blue Kats Meeting is Like

We call the meeting to order at 6:30 p.m., acknowledge one another, say the pledge, and share a meal catered from a local restaurant.  Each member makes a fixed contribution towards dinner, and we then conduct new and old business, vote on members' suggested actions, and choose the amount of donation requests called for historically and if new, on the spur of the moment after discussions.

The discussion sometimes comes up as new or old business, we read the minutes from the last meeting, and after adjourning the meeting, we listen to a speaker.

Recent speakers are from big projects such as the Winston Farm consortium, the head of the Ulster County DMV, health practitioners, shepherds, home restorers, brickmakers, and even world travelers.  Our meetings are fun, and we get the job of giving our help quickly, with gratitude that we can do it!

So, you can see that we are not very demanding of your time.  Your community needs you.  Come and join us?

Fund Raising

Our group has one main fund raiser and several activities that are done in the background and make a difference in our community.

  • We have a yearly fundraiser at the Hudson Valley Garlic Festival, using local suppliers for the garlic sausage and garlic potatoes we sell.  Members help prepare the food at the festival and set up and take down the display.
  • If a Saugertiesian has a fire or other disaster strikes them, we sometimes have a breakfast fund-raiser.  We have helped one member by raising and donating $8,000 to help with reconstruction.
  • During the government shut-down we contributed to the Coast Guard members because they had no income from their service.
  • We have provided firewood for a family in need.
  • We help with the Mum Festival.
