Description
The Hudson Valley Garlic Festival™ is a fun-filled celebration of the garlic harvest, presented by the Kiwanis Club of Saugerties. All proceeds go to worthwhile community causes.
It is always held in the last full weekend of September or the first full weekend of October. In 2024, the dates/times are: Saturday, Sept. 28th (10 a.m. to 6 p.m.) and Sunday, Sept. 29th (10 a.m. to 5 p.m.).
The location is Cantine Field in Saugerties (Mile Marker 101, NY State Thruway). Use 207 Market Street (the address for the adjacent Saugerties Senior Citizens Center) for a GPS address.
Activities
There are many activities that you can try to fit into your day:
- A visit to the Garlic Marketplace, where literally tons of gourmet garlic await you.
- The Food Alley, featuring garlic-enhanced foods. There’s sausage, stuffed cabbage, pizza, pulled pork, garlic soup, garlic green beans, and even garlic ice cream! There's something for everyone, from vegetarian to serious carnivores.
- Constant entertainment, varying each year between bluegrass, Cajun, ragtime, Irish music, and other music . . .
- Cooking demonstrations by renowned chefs of the Hudson Valley.
- Instructive garlic growing and braiding talks, including members of the Garlic Seed Foundation
- An Arts and Crafts area, typically featuring over 80 vendors
- A Children’s Tent with activities for the younger kids and a climbing wall for older children.
- A poster contest. You get to vote, to help choose next year’s winning Hudson Valley Garlic Festival poster design.
