The following lists the churches, congregations, centers, temples and organizations involved in worship in the Saugerties area.
Our area is rich in its diversity of religious affiliation, including Catholic, Congregational, Episcopalian, Evangelical, Jewish, Lutheran, Methodist, Reformed, Tibetan and non-denominational places of worship.
Open each of the accordion sections below to learn about the religious organizations involved with each category.
The Saugerties Area Council of Churches is responsible for a yearly Christmas Toy Store, the Well (used clothing store), the Saugerties Food Pantry, the Birthday Booth, the Finger Fund, annual Vacation Bible School, the CROP Walk, etc.
You do not need to be a member of a church to be a part of this group.
The group, which began in 2001, was inspired by a UNICEF (United Nations International Children’s Emergency Fund) program.
The Toy store, housed in the Reformed Church, is open on Fridays and Saturdays near Christmas time.
Donations can be sent to the Saugerties Area Council of Churches, P.O. Box 723, Saugerties, NY 12477. The memo line on the check should state “Christmas toy store.”

Parish Merger with St. Joseph's Church in Glasco
Note that in August 2015, the Archdiocese of New York merged the Saint Joseph's Parish in Glasco and the Saint Mary of the Snow Parish in the Village of Saugerties. What was once two separate parishes with two priests and two campuses, became one parish, with one priest, and two campuses, at that point.
General info
An excerpt about St. Mary of the Snow, from the November 2011 Hudson Valley Magazine:
"Known as 'the Parish of the Hudson', St. Mary of the Snow was the only Catholic parish between New York City and Albany when it was built in 1833. With its beautiful name and picture-postcard appearance, this classic country church features a high steeple, traditional stained glass windows, and a cemetery that dates back to the mid-19th century.
The stark simplicity of the church is its most striking feature. A closer look reveals a Tiffany stained glass window depicting the Virgin Mary at the Assumption.
Late Night host Jimmy Fallon grew up in Saugerties and attended elementary school at St. Mary of the Snow.

The Reformed Church of Saugerties is home to a Roosevelt Organ (Opus 530). You can't miss it, as it sits in full glorious view as a backdrop to the altar.
Frank Roosevelt, first cousin to President Theodore Roosevelt, built 178 organs (including the Reformed Church organ) for the Roosevelt Organ Works, a company started by his brother Hilbourne. The organ inside the Reformed Church of Saugerties is No. 530 of the 538 organs built by this company. Mr. John Lasher offered to purchase this organ for the church with the proviso that the rear of the church be extended to accommodate the organ. The organ was installed December 5, 1982.
The original organ is believed to have been pumped manually and was converted to water power around 1913. In 1918, an electric blower was installed. Over the years, several pipes were added as were new stops. 58 notes were increased to 61, pedals increased from 27 to 32, electric action and a new console were installed. The organ today has 2,000 pipes.
The church occasionally holds an organ recital, when capable organists visit Saugerties.
