SAUGERTIES, NY — Opus 40’s Richards Gallery announces Seldom Seen | Historic Works by Woodstock Artists, an exhibition of paintings by artist/friends of Harvey Fite, to open with a reception on Saturday, October 11 from 3-5 pm and run through November 9.
This exhibition presents paintings from the collection of Woodstock resident John Cederquist. With an array of historic artworks that have never been publicly exhibited, these pieces were acquired over decades by three generations of the owner's family, close friends of Harvey and Barbara Fite, and members of the social circle who frequented Opus 40 as a private residence.
Featuring paintings by Robert Angeloch, John F. Carlson, Frank Swift Chase, Florence Ballin Cramer, Justine Fuller, Beryl Goss, Henry Mattson, William Pachner, Joseph Pollet, Anton Refregier, Marko Vukovic, Jean Wrolsen, and others, this special exhibition is the inaugural event in the newly dedicated Richards Gallery, named for Tad and Pat Richards, stewards of Opus 40 for three decades.

The Tad & Pat Richards Gallery at Opus 40 was officially dedicated on September 27, 2025. In 1987, after the death of his mother, Barbara Fite, Tad Richards and his wife Pat undertook the daunting task of running Opus 40. Over the next three decades, they kept Opus 40 open to the public, promoting and maintaining Harvey Fite's phenomenal earthwork, while expanding the organization's arts programming to include theatrical productions and poetry readings in addition to the iconic sunset concert series. Always looking for new outlets to showcase the talents of local artists, in 2004 they opened the gallery at Opus 40 on the ground floor of the Quarryman's Museum.
Opus 40 is thrilled to officially recognize this space as The Richards Gallery to honor Tad & Pat for their tireless dedication to Opus 40.
