Each winter, from mid-November until the spring thaw, Town of Hunter Route 9 (also known as Platte Clove (Mountain) Road) is closed to vehicles.
Upon each year's closure, a steel gate is locked in place preventing passage along the steep and winding road.
Typical dates for the closure are November until late April or early May — or until weather permits and all seasonal repairs are complete. If you know the road, you know why.
Platte Clove Road is currently CLOSED.
For Catskills mountain hikers, Platte Clove Road is often the quickest way to get to the Eastern Devil’s Path trailheads, and the trailheads for Kaaterskill High Peak and Huckleberry Point.
This page is an "echo" of the information on the Mountain Hiking page "Is Platte Clove Road Open or Closed?". Whenever in doubt, check in there for the latest. That page also has additional information such as directions to Platte Clove when Platte Clove Road is closed for the winter.
