Bill Schirmer is a lifelong Saugerties resident.  His youth was spent on my familyís homestead in Blue Mountain.  Bill attended the Grant D. Morse elementary school and graduated from Saugerties High School, class of 1985.

Bill is an alumnus of Marist College in Poughkeepsie.  In 1989 he was awarded the degree of Bachelor of Science, cum laude, in Criminal Justice-Police Science.  He served as president of the college criminal justice club in his junior and senior year.  Upon completion of his studies he was granted admission in Alpha Phi Sigma, the national criminal justice honor society.

After completing his college education, Bill began working as a title abstractor for his fatherís law firm, Schirmer & Hrdlicka, and their newly formed title insurance company, Glasco Abstract, Inc.  Little did he know that he was on the path to forming the basis of his career.  Although it was Bill's intent to seek employment in the law enforcement field, as time went on he became more intrigued by the aspects of real property law and the very unique intricacies of the title insurance industry.  After many years of rising through the ranks as employee and junior partner, Bill currently serves as president and CEO of one of the most successful and well known title insurance companies in Ulster County.  His experience in this field gives him great insight in the regional real estate market and the challenges we face in achieving recovery after the deflation of home values resulting from the mid-decade recession.

Bill and his wife Terry currently reside in the hamlet of Cedar Grove.  They have three children, a daughter and two sons, all presently enrolled in the Saugerties school district.   Bill's children provide the impetus for his ambition to preserve the character of the town for future generations.

Bill is a longstanding member of the Saugerties Fish & Game Club, where he has served in many capacities, including President in 1998, 2011 and 2012.  He currently serves on the Board of Directors where his responsibilities include drafting budgets and creating policy for the 500 member organization.  In 2012 Bill was instrumental in the creation of the first annual Saugerties Youth Fishing Tournament, hosted at the Blue Mountain reservoir in a collaborative effort between the Village of Saugerties and the Saugerties Fish & Game Club.  The event attracted over 120 area children and their families.  It was judged an overwhelming success by all involved.  He is also a member of the Saugerties Lions Club, the Northeastern Woodworkers Association and the Catskill 3500 Club, where he formerly served on the audit committee.

Bill participates in many outdoor activities including cycling, kayaking, hiking, gardening, fishing and recreational and competitive shooting.  He has spent many years coaching his children in AYSO soccer and has always enjoyed helping with youth related activities in the community.

Bill believes we have an obligation to give back to the society that supports us and wants to use his small business experience and common sense to govern in a manner beneficial to all residents. He intends to seek common ground with his fellow elected officials while standing firm on the principals of open government, fiscal responsibility, budgetary restraint, responsible development and private sector growth.
